Family get away on the Alabama River

Just got back last weekend from River Oaks Landing....a Bed N' Breakfast on the Alabama River. Such a peaceful place and rich with history. I kept imagining all that had happened on this river alone. From Indians to the Civil War and hiding slaves to now being a place of quiet rest for many people along one of Alabama's most beautiful and scenic rivers.

We met my Papa Joe and his wonderful wife Jackie, and also my family there for the weekend. It was quick but very worth the trip to be able to see all of them. We enjoyed a country festival on Saturday in Orrville, Alabama....which is something I had never experienced before. It was true country! Homemade icecream, canned fruits and veggies, hand sewn and crocheted clothing, a petting zoo and hayrides. Iris got to ride behind a old Kabota tractor with my mom in a barrell- it was too cute and she loved it!

She also got to ride my grandpa's Harley Davidson- which I got to ride too! SOOO fun! They drove the bike all the way from Texas- 10 hours!!! I couldn't believe it! They were all decked out in their leather chaps and everything! Very cool.

Overall we had a wonderful time, and hope to go back next year!
Here are a few more snapshots from our time there!

...Lazy Blogger

So I have figured out that I am just not good at recording things in general and I want to get better about it, especially now that I have a child. I want to be able to look back on these milestones and different seasons of my life and be able to tell them to my kids and grandkids one day....and let's just say I am not known for having a great memory ;)
I am sitting here drinking my honey spiced chai and just loving the weather this week. I was truly looking forward to the cold weather, I just didn't know sickness was going to accompany it. It started with Michael and then Iris got it, and now me...lovely. Poor baby girl hasn't been able to breathe well for days. I'm hoping she can shake it soon. We are going this weekend to a bed and breakfast on the Alabama River to meet my family there. My grandpa and his wife are coming from Texas, and they haven't met Iris yet. Iris is so blessed to have 2 sets of great grandparents. Not many people can say that.

Here is what has been happening with her lately...
5th Month
At the beginning of her 5th month we started Rice Cereal for the first time. Iris made some hilarious faces but really caught on to swallowing and eating with a spoon very quickly. After abut 3 tries she was begging for more. She loves it now!
She started to sit up on her own for about a minute or so. Her favorite thing to do for about a week was blow bubbles and spit. ALL THE TIME. She thought it was the funniest thing.
At the end of this month we tried veggie baby food for the first time. Green peas and then after about a week we tried carrots. She did well, and after the first bite, was grunting for more! She has always been a good eater. I tried to introduce the sippy cup- but she doesn't quite get it yet. She just wants to play with it.
Iris also learned to push herself up on her hands and knees in the crawl position but then she just gets scared and flops down on her tummy.
Grandma Laurie stopped by for a visit this month, and we had so much fun with her, as always. We strolled and went to the park to swing. We went shopping and played outside alot.
Daddy put up Iris a swing in the front yard under the tree and she absolutely LOVES it. It is the only thing she doesn't ever get bored with.

So far in Iris' 6th month:
She has learned to sit up well on her own- she has a few tumbles now and then but she is pretty tough. She has also started to say "da-da" over and over. We gave her such a great reaction the first time she did it, that now she does it constantly! Its so funny!
She is now eating some sort of fruit or veggie baby food every night and is doing very well. So far she hasn't been picky...hope that continues!
She has been sleeping very well her entire 5th month and beginning of her 6th month. About 7:30 or 8 until 6:30 in the morning. This bad cold has thrown her off- but hopefully she can get back on track to restful sleep after she gets well. Poor thing.

We go to the doctor next week for 6 month shots and check up- I can't wait to see exactly how much she weighs! She really has gotten so big lately.

I am going to try to at least update every week from now on!!! I read so many fun blogs and want to get better at recording everything in our lives!

My encouragement for this week comes from Romans 5.

"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. 3And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. "

Resting in Him.
